What FoodFlip does

FoodFlip is a Chrome extension that helps you swap ingredients on recipe pages to fit your diet, pantry, or preferences. The shipped extension activates on the active tab after you open the extension, scans the visible recipe content, and lets you compare or apply substitution suggestions on that page.

What FoodFlip reads

After you open FoodFlip on a tab, the extension reads recipe-page text such as ingredient lines, recipe instructions, and nearby structural cues needed to identify ingredient roles and update instruction text.

FoodFlip does not inject itself into every page by default. It becomes active on a page after user invocation through the extension popup.

How FoodFlip processes recipe content

In the shipped v1 runtime, recipe analysis is handled locally in your browser. FoodFlip does not send scanned recipe-page content to a remote FoodFlip backend service as part of normal operation.

The codebase contains dormant parser and API scaffolding for an experimental path, but that path is not active in the shipped runtime.

What FoodFlip stores

FoodFlip stores favorites locally in Chrome storage so saved preferred substitutions remain available between sessions on the same browser profile. The extension may also keep small session-level state needed to support popup recents, review, reopen, and jump actions while you are working on a page.

FoodFlip does not currently sync favorites or session data across devices.

Shopping links

FoodFlip can show optional shopping links in the popup and on applied ingredient rows for the current substitution. These links open only when you click them. Amazon links may include affiliate attribution for qualifying purchases and are not required to use the extension.
